7 1/16” - 5M Model M-VW-DB valves (PDF)
Summary
This report shows the maximum allowable mass load, a 7 1/16” - 5M Model M-VW-DB valves can withstand. We found that this valve can withstand about 65,662lb, mass. We can also conclude that the 7 1/16 3000lb Mass load is the same as the 7 1/16 5000lb, the only difference is the flange size. We used in the calculation the elastic stability method that is used in Roark’s Formulas for Stress & Strain, by Warren C. Young, 1989 - case 1a of Table 34.
Method
The maximum allowed mass load is calculated using table 34, Case 1a of Roark’s Formulas for stress & Strain, by Warren C. Young, 1989
Assumptions
We assumed that the valve is a pipe with valve’s hub as the outside diameter and the valve’s bore is the inside diameter.
